<p><strong>Please note</strong>, this description is intended to help my existing clients to get ready/prepare for the new bootcamp class (&#8220;released&#8221; every Wednesday morning). My clients then do these exercises in a studio setting with guidance from a certified fitness professional. I do not recommend attempting to do these exercises on your own, without professional guidance.</p>

<p>Part of the support we offer our clients is the opportunity to go on-line and review the exercises that they are currently doing in our fitness bootcamp that week. Occasionally, I have to create the videos myself, but more often I find examples online. However, as I scan the world wide web  - YouTube, mostly &#8211; looking for good form and little or no talking, I come across many examples of exercises videos that make me wonder:<em><strong> How do the trainers in these videos get results for their clients?!?<span id="more-1316"></span></strong></em></p>
<p>Statements like “I do not recommend going higher than an 8lb medicine ball, with my healthy clients, while doing a MB squat press”, make me scratch my head in bewilderment! The first time I did this exercise <em>I <strong>started</strong> with an 8lb medicine ball!</em> I couldn’t do a chin up nor could I do more than 4 push ups (at a 30 degree incline)!</p>
<p>Personally, I have made some discoveries and learned a few things leading to real results for both myself and, more importantly, my clients. <strong><em>If</em></strong> I went with the assumption that the person in the above mentioned video is correct, I would never challenge my clients bodies enough to see the results pretty much everyone I train wants to see. Tight butt &amp; abs, strong arms &amp; legs and the ability to lift more than 8 lbs over their heads.</p>
<p>By the way, most babies weigh under 8lbs for (only?) the first month, if that, right?!? They, obviously, never get lifted over your head, right? (I believe there is a giggle reward at the top of the very popular &#8220;baby toss in the air&#8221; game!)</p>
<p>There is plenty of science, and all of the good fitness professionals I read and listen to these days, strongly suggesting that the training emphasis needs to be on functional movement exercises that support your everyday life. Using (real) weights is actually necessary.</p>
<p>Think of this: Your vacation suitcase &#8211; most likely &#8211; never weighed under 8lbs when you packed it and brought it on vacation, right? But, it seems like some of the video trainers suggest that just because something is shaped like a dumbbell, medicine ball or kettle bell, and weighs more than 8 lbs, you may get hurt. And if you are a woman, weights need to be almost weightless???.</p>
<p>Weight loss is another big part of the results people expect when they exercise. Getting to, or being at, a weight which allows you to preform the activities you would like, be healthy as well as feel &amp; look good are all very important parts of measuring progress.</p>
<p>From my perspective, eating clean is a tremendously important and big part of the picture when reaching for these life changing results. If I were to use a car analogy, it would go something like this:</p>
<p>If your car currently runs on regular fuel but is running rough (in &#8220;you&#8221; terms; You&#8217;re feeling like crap), you would probably check your car manual. And, once you did, you may find that it states that your car would be more efficient (&#8220;it&#8217;s recommended&#8221;) when given a higher octane fuel. Yeah, it may (appear to) be more expensive, but in the long run you will end up on the plus side of the financial equation (longevity of the engine). The same is true when it comes to your body. Basically, in my view &#8220;high octane fuels&#8221; = unprocessed food.</p>
<p>The Tried and True: meat, fish, veggies, fruit, nuts, and healthy fat (no hydrogenated oils which turn into Trans Fats. They&#8217;re pure evil!). And if your body can take it, try a moderate amount of dairy and  healthy grains (remember, in moderation!) And minus wheat&#8230; If wheat was what it used to be, then the same rules would apply, but it isn’t, so they don’t!)</p>
